Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, Ministry of Energy gives contracts for “Improving energy efficiency of industry’s air conditioning and cooling system support” Project to Charoen Pokphand Foods PLC (CPF). The contract aims to boost the energy efficiency within the Company’s operation via 32 projects. It is expected that the project will reduce energy and greenhouse gas emission of 8.5 million kilowatt and 4,606 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year respectively.
Mr. Pongphat Munkkunk, Director of Human Resource Development, Bureau of the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, said that energy consumption has constantly been increasing due to the economic growth. 60% of the energy consumption within the industrial sector comes from air conditioning and cooling system. The project aims to support and create a network to share efficient energy consumption practices. The department provides financial sponsorship and advice to help the Company enhances energy efficiency in the production process with a tangible result. Moreover, the project would reduce greenhouse gas emission which is the main cause of global warming, maintain energy security and improve the environment.
“The collaboration between the department and CPF is crucial because it is the collaboration between the government and the private sectors to conserve the energy, maintain national energy security and mitigate the impact of global warming. At the same time, it enhances the Company’s competitiveness. CPF projects will be excellent samples that can be further expand to the other industries,” Mr. Pangphat said.
The department gives 12 contracts for “Energy Efficiency for Industrial and Commercial Air Conditioner and Cooling system” project to help CPF improves the efficiency of the cooling and air conditioning system. The company will undergo a one year assessment and receive sponsorship fee based on the actual result.
The Company collaborates with the department consisted of 32 projects such as ice making system development and other equipment upgrade projects. The project would save of 8.5 million kilowatt and reduce greenhouse gas emission of 4,606 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year respectively. Consequently, the projects will reduce greenhouse gas emission by 0.52 when compared to based year 2015 and save 29 million Baht per year. CPF determines to drop greenhouse gas emission per production unit by 5% compared to based year 2015.
CPF established the Environmental Sustainability Sub – Committee to support the environmental projects and mitigate the operational impact on the environment. In 2016, the Company initiated 104 projects which helped reduce energy and greenhouse gas emission for more than 80,000 gigajoules and 7,200 tons of carbon dioxide equivalents respectively. Additionally, the Company promote the use of renewable energy and collaborate with other organizations to reduce Greenhouse gas emission and maintain the energy security.
