CPF certifies Thailand’s first-ever Water Scarcity Footprint label

Bangkok, August 3, 2018 – The Department of Groundwater Resources, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and Thailand’s Water Institute for Sustainability, the Federation of Thai Industries, jointly certified Water Scarcity Footprint, which is Thailand’s first - ever water footprint assessment to Charoen Pokphand Foods PCL (CPF).

The certifications granted to two of CPF’s Food Processing Poultry Businesses (Saraburi and Minburi 2) for being a part of pilot program. Fresh chicken and tender chicken breast, also received the Water Footprint Label.

Ms. Kularb Kimsri, Vice President of CPF Global Standard System Centre, said the company’s decision to participate in the pilot project is in response to the global demand for sustainable water consumption.

Two CPF’s product s has been selected to join the project include fresh chicken from Saraburi Food Processing Plant and tender chicken breast from Minburi Plant 2.

The Water Footprint label is initiated in order to encourage efficient water use, which is a vital part for sustainable water resource management.

“It is the first time ever in Thailand to established Water Footprint label. This label reflects the company’s capability as a safe and responsible food producer. CPF has ultimate goals to create food security and continuously develop sustainable foods,” she said.

Ms. Kularb explained that, due to CPF’s integrated supply chains from upstream to downstream, the company is able to assess the product’s water footprint precisely. Moreover, the cross checking of data has been done by the third party to ensure that the information reflects realistic result.

CPF, as a leading food agro-industrial and food conglomerate with CPF's vision to be "Kitchen of the World”, is operating under good corporate governance in line with 10 out of 17 the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) such as “clean water and sanitation”, “zero hunger” and “climate action”.
