CPF joins force with Department of Labour Protection and Welfare and Department of Livestock Development in a bid to uplift welfares and quality of life of stakeholders in broiler businesses. GLP principles and good practies are set to be propagated to concerned people through to line workers.
Mr. Virachai Ratanabanchuen, Chief Operating Officer – Chicken Business Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF), said CPF is committed to put labour relations to the next level on par with international accepted standards. The GLP is applied throughout the entire value chain, assuring that GLP is well observed from feed mill to primary processing. This guarantees that workers involved in CPF broiler value chain are treated in the same class as global accepted practices. With GLP, consumers and international buyers can be fully assured and have peace of mind because there will be no issues regarding forced labour or slave labour.
CPF has developed GLPs for the entire broiler operation starting from farm through to processing plant comparable with international standards. This year, CPF is taking a step forward in proposing GLP policies and guidelines to CPF contract growers to reassure that the entire supply chain is running well with regard to product integrity and good labour practices. More importantly, the manufacturing are transparent and traceable.
“The training first begins in Nakhon Ratchasima with 40 broiler farm owners. The training will soon be organized in provinces across the country. Trainees sign agreement in committing and abiding by GLP principles in managing labour relations,” said Mr. Virachai.
In 2016, CPF together with Department of Labour Protection and Welfare and Department of Livestock Development, Ministry of Agriculture will organize practical training program for management, stockman and concerned staff. CPF wants to convey the GLP to broiler farm owners across Thailand to perceive and understand the GLP principles and apply in their operations.
“Thai broiler industry has been internationally recognized in terms of quality and integrity. Strong commitment to take up GLP among stake holders will lead to sustainable development for the Thai broiler industry at large,” said Mr. Virachai.
Further than that, the trainees can adopt the GLP in their workplaces. CPF will appoint internal audit teams to monitor GLP practices, provide recommendations so that all farms will have GLP guidelines in place to improve quality of life of stakeholders by treating them fairly, non-discriminatingly regardless of their nationalities.
