Bangkok -- Charoen Pokphand Foods PCL (CPF) will export cooked duck products to New Zealand as the first time of the Kingdom reflecting the company’s food safety standard has been certified by international requirement and its trading partners and another targeted market is Australia.
Mr.Pisit Ohmpornnuwat, Chief Operating Officer – Duck Business of CPF, said it is the first time that New Zealand allows to import cooked duck products from Thailand. CPF is also the first Thai company to export. New Zealand is one of the importing country with stringent restrictions on hygiene and food safety. The company’s export value of duck products is forecast to grow by 20-25 per cent this year.
“New Zealand is a potential market of duck meat although its sanitary and phytosanitay measures (SPS) for food and agricultural goods are implemented in the highest level but CPF successfully comply with those restrictions,” said Mr.Pisit.
The company’s export derived from successful negotiations between the governments of the two countries since 2015. It planned to solve trade obstacle on food safety and technical problem under New Zealand’s import health standard until duck meat and duck meat product have been certified.
CPF is seriously implemented world-class standard which also in line with SPS of New Zealand. In addition, the company’s poultry has been farmed under compartment system, which guaranteed by OIE that it can prevent bird flu virus. This will convince clients of the company on food safety export quality.
Mr.Prasert Anuchiracheewa, Senior Vice President of CPF, added that first export lot of ready-to-cooked duck products will be arrived New Zealand by April. At present, European Union is the main export market of duck products and the company successfully exports duck meat this year as well. Other export markets of fresh duck meat include Japan and Hong Kong, and ready-to-cooked duck products export to UK and Singapore. The company’s fresh duck meat and processed products total export volume is forecast to reach 4,621 tonnes worth Bt947 million, with an expected growth of 20-25% this year.
“It is an important successful time of CPF to export duck meat to New Zealand which the two countries try to develop the quality to meet with global standard. It is also encourage the company to upgrade Thailand’s livestock industry to serve consumer worldwide. The company eyes for other potential export market such as Australia and others,” said Mr.Prasert
