CPF joined as a member of SeaBOS to ensure ocean stewardship and sustainable use of natural resources

Charoen Pokphand Foods PCL (CPF) became a member of a global coalition: Seafood Business for Ocean stewardship (SeaBOS) to internationally participate in stewards of the world’s ocean and marine resources and environments, aiming to achieve ecosystem conservation and to supply high quality seafood produced for human being in a responsible and sustainable way.

 

Mr.Wuthichai Sithipreedanant, Senior Vice President – Social Responsibility and Sustainability Development of CPF, said that the company, by Chairman Mr. Adirek Sripratak had signed an agreement to become a member of SeaBOS with a strong commitment to cooperating with the world leading seafood producers to further develop a new global initiative. The project aimed at promoting stewardship of global ocean and marine ecosystems and to ensure the provision of healthy, quality and sustainable seafood for present and future generations.

 

In this regard, SeaBOS was initiated by Stockholm University, Sweden, in which a coalition of the world‘s leading seafood companies gave precedence to security and abundance of global marine resources and prosperity of global consumers. This project drew to develop an approach to protect and rebuild marine resources not only through raw material management but also throughout the supply chain. Moreover, it need to ensure full traceability from fishery sector to aquaculture business in order to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

“This is the first time that the leaders in science and business concerning marine and aquaculture sectors from Asia, Europe and North America come together to create awareness on conservation of marine environments and ecosystems as well as to find solution of natural resource management problems” said Mr.Wuthichai.

 

 

 

The missions of this project is to improve transparency and traceability in our own cooperation, reduce IUU fishing, engage in science-based efforts to improve fisheries and aquaculture management, put effort to

 

eliminate any form of modern slavery, reduce the use of antibiotics in aquaculture, reduce the use of plastics in seafood operations, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, develop best practices, improve regulatory regimes for emerging marine resources, and invest in the development of novel initiatives and innovations to promote sustainability in fishery and aquaculture sectors.

 

As a member of this project, it will strengthen CPF’s relationship and networking with world leaders in seafood industry and build consumers’ confidence. In addition, it will improve the company’s ability to catch up with the world demand.

 

Mr.Wuthichai emphasized that the company has implemented ‘CPF Quality Policy’ and ‘CPF Food Standard’, which applies to ensure single standard manufacturing in its operation worldwide. The policies has concerned on food quality, including food standardization that complies with the world standard and can be traced back throughout the supply chain. The company also has a strong commitment for social responsibility to sustainability under the concept “3 pillars: Food Security, Self-Sufficiency, and Balance of Nature” in accordance to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

Besides, CPF still works with stakeholders including government agency, independent organization, civil society and other concerned people, to push forward for the better changes in fishery industry. The company also implemented traceability practices and used labor appropriately in line with international standard throughout its seafood supply chain. In addition, it also put in place strict inspection to ensure transparency by professional auditor from outside.

 

CPF also strongly supports Fishery Improvement Plan along the two coastal sides of Thailand.
