Charoen Pokphand Foods PCL (CPF) announced a revision of safety regulations to promptly and effectively response to any emergency situations. The company expects that the improvement will greatly reduce injury and loss of those who work or visited the company.
Since the tragic loss in a confined space’s accident, The Safety Health Environment & Energy (SHE& En) Management Committee has conducted a full review on health and safety procedures. Mr. Suchart Wiriya-apa, Senior Vice President of CPF, said SHE& En committee has initiated additional corrective action to tighten safety and response to emergency situation at work, covering 3 aspects including Hardware-Software-Peopleware.
The reformed standards will enable CPF to be ready and having well prepared measurements for all kinds of risk to ensure that tragic accident will not be repeated at the company’s workplace in the future.
Particularly, the company also revamped duty and responsibility of “Fire Response Team” by conducting more safety training and practices. This plan is to ensure the safety operation under “Emergency Response Team” are well treat in case of emergency. These well-trained teams will have skills to cover the ‘five risks’ in line with concerned laws.
Currently, the company has completed its workplace safety improvement (Hardware) in line with the committee’s risk assessment. For example, barricade has been installed in the risk areas, all machine used in waste water treatment are installed outside of the confined space and reroute the operational area. These protocols are made to reduce the operational risks as much as possible.
In term of software improvement, CPF implemented a new safety measures designed specifically for visitors, observers and interns. The measurements are now applied in all businesses to ensure the safety of those visitors.
On Peopleware, CPF also cultivate safety culture through several communications such as leaflets and posters. The company also organized e-learning for five critical workplace risks including confined space, fire safety, electrical safety, chemical hazard and falls from a higher level to all employees. The trainings will help the employees to handle to situation properly.
Mr.Parisotat Punnabhum, Executive Vice President – Human Resources of CPF, said besides the assistance and remedies to families of the deceases under the company’s regulations, it also compensated of Bt3 million to each of those families. In addition, it also paid for all expenses during their funeral ceremonies.
Moreover, CPF has also provided the bachelor-degree scholarships to children of the deaths as well as taking care of their parents (father and mother) through the ‘Fund for Elderly’. The elderlies will get monthly support which the company’s volunteers will always visit them to deliver foods and essential goods.
