Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF) released the first lot of containers containing fresh poultry and chicken products to Germany after being granted Germany’s prestigious QS Standard, making CPF the first Thai company and the only non-EU countries to win the world’s renowned production criteria. The latest accreditation also confirms quality and safety of CPF’s chicken products regularly recognized by EU consumers.
Mr. Virachai Ratanabanchuen, Chief Operating Officer - Chicken Business of CPF, said during the ceremony to launch the first shipment of poultry to Germany that CPF had seriously committed to make its chicken production process safe, quality, up to international standards and win confidence from customers worldwide including the EU who has imported chicken products from CPF for more than three decades. In the latest development, CPF has been accredited Germany’s QS Standard, which signifies quality and safety in the food-for-consumption production process. Being the highest standard in terms of food safety for German consumers and is increasingly recognized and winning confidence from consumers in other EU countries, the QS Standard is very restricted and underlines transparency experienced by consumers in a production process with traceability quality. Winning a high level of consumer confidence and thanks to product reliability.
Mr.Virachai said CPF enjoyed increasing orders from Germany and the EU. On this occasion, 23,000 kilograms of fresh poultry was exported to Germany. CPF plans to export 70,000 tons of chicken and chicken products totaling Baht 10 billion to the EU throughout 2017.
“The QS Standard sends a message to Thai consumers that they will enjoy CPF’s chicken produced by a process considered as safe and as quality as the one enjoyed by Germans and the EU citizens, “ Mr. Virachai affirms, “what’s more important is by receiving the QS Standard, CPF is able to get more orders from German and the EU customers.”
The QS Standard is equipped with a strict monitoring system. Use of antibiotics within a farm is restricted for safety purpose on the basis of animal welfare. The product must be salmonella-free. In addition, there is a system to examine the quality of live chicken when delivering to factory. According to Mr. Virachai, CPF’s chicken production process has corresponded to what the QS Standard requires both in terms of safety and quality on the principles of animal welfare and animal health. Since 2006 up to now, CPF has also collaborated with Department of Livestock Development to develop a compartment-style avian raising to prevent the bird flu based on the OIE principles.
The QS Standard will connect the entire supply chain together from feed, to farm and food; and from importers to retailers and wholesalers in Germany and other destinations. In addition, there are requirements in the QS Standard that have been designed to be unique for every food production unit to achieve the highest food safety for consumers. These requirements are regularly checked, reported and reviewed to be able to identify the origin of food at every production chain. Consumers therefore can be confident that the quality of products from the production process accredited with the QS Standard will be very high and truly recognized at the international level, Mr.Virachai said./
