Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) has provided its recycled water from its swine farms to nearby farms in an effort to help farmers mitigate impact from drought for over 20 years.
Samrit Taengwan, a farmer in Suphan Buri Province, has been received “bio-fertilizer water” recycled from CP Foods’ Nopparat Swine Farm for more than 19 years consecutively to use in the 8-rai of his green pumpkin farm. The bio-fertilizer water allows them to grow fruits and vegetables all year round.
The water that is distributed to farmers has been treated from biogas system in the company's swine farm. The bio-fertilizer water contains nutrients that are appropriate for growing crops, such as potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus. This allow farmers to produce fruits and vegetables that are chemical-free, saving farmers almost 20,000 baht per year.
Kumpa Kuisukpan recounted that she was among a very first group of farmers that use bio-fertilizer water from CP Foods 19 years ago. She said that the delivered water can be used immediately and without any odor. After applying fertilizer to sugarcane fields, it was noted that the yield of sugarcane was high
Moreover, the farm does not need a large quantities of fertilizer like before. Other farmers who saw the success had used the fertilizer and also had good yields as well.
In 2021, 117 farmers nationwide receiving fertilizer from the company’s swine farms, covering 2,464 rai of agricultural area, reducing fertilizer costs for farmers by 1,787,000 baht. Last year, four egg complexes started pilot program to distribute recycled water to 10 farmers last year, sharing 143,500 cubic meters.
