CP Foods’ Ban Na egg processing plant in Nakhon Nayok Province has turned eggshells from the manufacturing process into organic fertilizers and distribute to farmers in the nearby area in an effort to reduce food loss and save farming costs.

CP Foods’ senior vice-president Wanthanee Chamnanshettakarn explained that the Ban Na plant produce an average of 1,000 tons of waste eggshells annually. The plant has initiated this project along with circular economy approach in a bid to maximize resource use and reduce number of waste from food production.

Since 2014, the project has been produce "Organic fertilizer from eggshells" and distributed to farmers in the area to make fertilizer for their farms.

CP Foods also works together with the Nakhon Nayok Land Development Station to teach farmers and interested residents to make organic fertilizers from eggshells. The effort can help reducing their farming costs from purchasing chemical fertilizers. Moreover, the project can enhance food safety and food security within the community.

The CSR project is also in line with the organization's sustainability goals to reduce waste to landfills to zero by 2030 and to meet SDGs goals.  The project objectives also support a framework of FAO’s food loss and waste protocol (FLW).

The Company is following the sustainability goals of the Charoen Pokphand Group to reduce food waste and eliminate waste to landfill by 2030 (Zero Food Waste to Land Fill).
