CP Foods Introduces “Spicy Bologna” in Carbon Offset Project, Supporting Net-Zero 2050 Goal

Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) is collaborating with government agencies to develop low-carbon ready-to-eat products, featuring “CP Spicy Bologna,” a favorite among Thai consumers. By actively reducing carbon emissions at every stage of production and offsetting any remaining emissions, the company aims to support its long-term goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

In collaboration with the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) and the Center of Excellence in Environmental Strategy for GREEN Business (VGREEN), the company has introduced its “Spicy Bologna” as part of the “Corporate Carbon Offset Promotion for Carbon Neutrality (Phase 2)” program, pioneering carbon-neutral ready-to-eat products for consumers. CP Foods is the only food producer participating in this program.

Ms. Salilrut Pongpanich, Deputy Business Unit Head of the Ready-to-Eat Food Business at Nong Chok Food Processing plant, emphasized the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship throughout its value chain. The Spicy Bologna is produced using innovative technology, renewable energy, and responsibly sourced raw materials that are free from deforestation, while also minimizing landfill waste. Aiming for a carbon-neutral product, the company will offset any remaining emissions through carbon credits. This initiative supports the company's broader objectives of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050.

“Being selected for this project is another milestone for our ready-to-eat food business,”
Ms. Salilrut said. “It reflects our determination to create food that is good for the body and mind, with excellent nutritional value, produced via an eco-friendly process. Every bite consumers enjoy also contributes to social and environmental stewardship.”

In addition to Spicy Bologna, now part of this second-phase carbon offset program, CP Foods has a track record of environmental certification. Currently, 890 of its products hold a Carbon Footprint label, 88 products are certified with a Carbon Reduction label, and 2 products—U Farm Cage-Free eggs in packs of 4 and 10—are certified carbon-neutral, making them the first carbon-neutral eggs in Thailand and the Asia region.

The “Corporate Carbon Offset Promotion for Carbon Neutrality (Phase 2)” project aims to mitigate global warming impacts and support climate change adaptation by stimulating demand for carbon credits from voluntary greenhouse gas reduction initiatives in Thailand. Through this program, selected organizations and products reduce their carbon footprint and offset remaining emissions until they reach zero.
