The "CP Foods x Nichirei Grow-Share-Protect Mangrove Forestation Project" has entered its second year, reaffirming their shared commitment between CP Foods and Nichirei, a leading Japanese frozen seafood manufacturer. This collaboration aims to safeguard biodiversity and promote a sustainable food supply chain by expanding mangrove forests in Thailand's Trat Province.
To mark the beginning of this year's activities, Mr. Motohiro Kiuchi, Group Leader of the Shrimp Group at Nichirei Fresh Inc., joined forces with Mr. Winai Danvattana, Consultant for Shrimp Farm Business and Head of the Mangrove Strategic Plan Working Group in Trat Province, and Mr. Sutee Smudraprabhud, CP Foods' CSR & Biodiversity Stewardship Director. Alongside local community members, the team planted 400 mangrove seedlings, across a 1-rai area. This initiative aims to increase green spaces and support the health of the mangrove ecosystem.
Mr. Motohiro emphasized Nichirei's commitment to sustainability in the shrimp industry in Japan, noting, "We recognize our responsibility to restore mangrove forests and promote sustainable shrimp farming, aligning with the growing demand for environmentally friendly products among younger generations. Our long-standing partnership with CP Foods reflects our shared dedication to sustainability. CP Foods' advanced technology and innovations enable us to make a positive environmental impact. We are proud to be part of this project for the second year and are encouraged by the growth we have seen in the trees planted last year. We are dedicated to advancing our sustainability goals."
Mr. Winai highlighted the shared vision of CP Foods and Nichirei to conduct business responsibly with a focus on social and environmental sustainability. "Both companies are committed to taking urgent action to combat climate change and sustainably manage marine resources, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our efforts aim to mitigate climate change impacts and support the global mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," he said.
Since 2023, CP Foods and Nichirei have been actively involved in the Grow-Share-Protect Mangrove Forestation Project in Trat Province" initiative. Over the past two years, they have maintained and expanded the forest area, planting over 1,200 trees. The project has evolved to include a diverse range of tree species, planted strategically with proper spacing to enhance the survival rate of the trees. This approach underscores the companies' commitment to thoughtful and effective environmental stewardship.
