Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) signed an MOU agreement to join “Circular Economy Management System for the Organization” project, a pilot standard certification initiative led by VGreen, Kasetsart University’s environmental research program. The pilot project aims at promoting the of circular economy in business sectors.
CPF Food and Beverage Co., Ltd at Nongjok is among 32 companies from 6 manufacturing sectors that joined the pilot program. Krerkphan Deeprasert, Vice President at CP Foods, said that Nong Jok Food processing plant was selected to participate in the Circular Economy standard certification project to drive the country toward sustainability.
He says CP Foods has initiated multiple circular economy programs throughout the production process such as adopting solar rooftop, solar floating and biogas system. Moreover, the company has trained and raised awareness on this sustainability issue to reduce the amount of food waste from operations to landfill to zero by 2030.
Rattanawan Mangkang, Ph.D., director of VGreen, says Thailand is driving its economy with BCG (Bio-Circular-Green) Economy Model. The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) recognize an importance of setting up a standard certification that will boost transparency among Thai exporters. Moreover, the companies will have clear guidelines and measurement for Circular Economy practice. Subsequently, this standard certification will enhance consumer trust.
The pilot project will be implemented between July 2022 – December 2023. The project will be an important mechanism that will help organizations and relevant stakeholders to adopt as a practical guideline for creating a concrete circular economy management system within the organization
