Charoen Pokphand Foods (CP Foods) is spearheading the "Rak-Nives Pasak Watershed, Khao Phraya Doen Thong Project," dedicated to conserving and restoring headwater forests as it enters its ninth year. This initiative stems from the commitment of CP Foods, local communities, government agencies, and network partners to jointly conserve natural resources and the environment. Together, they aim to create a sustainable ecological balance by rehabilitating degraded forests, restoring their richness, and revitalizing ecosystems. The goal is to preserve this vital forest as a headwater source that sustains people, agriculture, and industry.
CP Foods volunteers have built upon previous successes by launching the "Planting Forage Crops" activity to create natural food sources for wildlife inhabiting the Khao Phraya Doen Thong area in Phatthana Nikhom District, Lopburi Province. The district chief of Phatthana Nikhom participated alongside volunteer teams from various business units, including CP Foods Food Network Co., Ltd., the broiler business, swine business, layer business, duck business, animal feed mills, terrestrial animal feed science, the Saraburi processing plant, and CPLI. Network partners such as the Forest Resource Management Office 5 (Saraburi) of the Royal Forest Department, Phatthana Nikhom District Office, Khok Salung Subdistrict Administrative Organization, local administrative organizations, Lopburi College of Agriculture and Technology, and local community members also joined, totaling over 250 participants.
Mr. Panuwat Niamprem, Head of Integrated Poultry Business at CP Foods, stated, "Today, everyone has come together to plant forage crops such as Myrobalan, Sandalwood, Crocodile Bark Tree, Dipterocarpus turbinatus, Rudraksha, and Java Plum. These are intercropped with nurse trees like the Rain Tree, Neem, and Sterculia to provide shade for the forage crops. We're planting on 50 rai (approximately 20 acres) and will gradually expand to an additional 500 rai. This activity increases the diversity of plant species, especially those that serve as food for wildlife, enhancing the richness and balance of the ecosystem. In 2024, CP Foods aims to conserve and restore forests in an expanded area of 5,000 rai, which our company's volunteers will undertake in collaboration with the Royal Forest Department and local communities."
Mr. Sutha Dansermsuk, Director of AEC, Taiwan, and Middle East Market at CP Foods Food Network Co., Ltd., who led the volunteer team, commented, "We regularly engage in CSR activities, and this project is part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, aligning with our goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. I'm very impressed by everyone's collaborative spirit today. The trees we plant will become part of the millions of trees on Khao Phraya Doen Thong, and we look forward to tracking their growth. I encourage everyone to remain conscious of and prioritize environmental preservation."
CP Foods plans to conduct employee engagement activities in the strategic headwater forest area of Khao Phraya Doen Thong about three times a year, aligning with the Royal Forest Department's forest maintenance schedule. Early in the year, during the dry season, activities include seedling cultivation and repairing check dams. Mid-year, as the rainy season begins, tree-planting activities are organized. At the end of the year, entering the dry season again, activities focus on repairing patrol routes and firebreaks. These efforts aim to continue restoring, caring for, and protecting the Khao Phraya Doen Thong forest and sustainably restoring the natural balance.
