Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods), in partnership with Kasetphand Industry Co., Ltd., has proudly received the Carbon Neutral Event certificate for successfully offsetting carbon emissions from the "CPF & KASETPHAND RUN for Charity 2024." This certification reflects a comprehensive approach to greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation, which included the purchase of carbon credits following extensive self-mitigation efforts during the event.
The CP Foods Employee Running Club has been instrumental in promoting the transition to a carbon-neutral event. Participants were encouraged to engage in self-mitigation practices while also purchasing carbon credits to compensate for any remaining GHG emissions, showcasing their commitment to sustainability.
Over the years, CP Foods, led by the CPF Running Club, has consistently organized charity walk-run activities focused on becoming carbon neutral. The initiative incorporates the use of recycled materials in alignment with the Waste-to-Value concept, which aims to minimize waste and maximize resource value.
For instance, the event featured running shirts made from 20 recycled plastic bottles each, and medals crafted from a variety of recycled materials, including alloy wheels, aluminum cans, computer motherboards, ceramics, and snack bags. Additionally, the event increased its utilization of recycling materials, such as future boards and wooden frames, with dedicated waste sorting stations to enhance waste management efficiency and significantly reduce landfill waste.
In line with eco-friendly practices, packaging for the event was carefully selected from biodegradable materials like sugarcane fiber, wood, and banana leaf trays, further contributing to environmental sustainability. The event also promoted carpooling among participants to optimize fuel efficiency. Collectively, these efforts culminated in the purchase of carbon credits, effectively offsetting approximately 60 tons of CO2 equivalent through support of a biomass power generation project.
For over a decade, the CPF Running Club has organized the CPF Run For Charity, which has evolved into a series of Carbon Neutral Events. These events not only promote the health and wellness of employees, families, and the public but also foster awareness about the importance of reducing greenhouse gas emissions among participants.
CP Foods is dedicated to making a positive contribution to society. The proceeds from the CPF RUN FOR CHARITY events, held more than 38 times, have contributed for over 70 public hospital, schools and charity organizations nationwide, totaling more than 17 million THB. This ongoing commitment highlights CP Foods' resolve to advance both community welfare and environmental stewardship.
