To celebrate International Day of Forests 2022 on March 21, Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods)has declared a commitment toward environmental conservation. The company pledges to continue sustainability projects to conserve, restore and revive watershed and mangrove forests.
In the second phase, CP Foods is progressing towards food security with sustainable consumption of natural resources and reduce the impact of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The forest restoration projects have positive impacts on multiple dimensions as well as creating jobs and promoting better living of the community.
Wuthichai Sithipreedanant, senior vice president for Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development at CP Foods, revealed that the Company has operated its business with social and environmental responsibility. It has implement forest conservation and restoration projects in watershed forests, mangrove forests, green spaces in the workplace. As a result of these green projects, CP Foods has now added more than 10,000 rai of green area to Thailand.
CP Foods monitors and assesses the social and environmental impacts of watershed and mangrove forest conservation and restoration projects, and further support eco-tourism and community and food security for communities.
Wuthichai said that the communities surrounding CP Foods’ project are having a better life from the increased income that comes from tourism and selling local products. In term of food security, the abundant forests have become a stable food source.
In term of environmental impact, the projects has revived many areas of watershed and mangrove forests. In addition, the mangroves have become a shield against soil erosion.
The Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) TGO verified that 1,500 rai of the CPF Rak Nives at Phraya Doen Thong Mountain Project can absorb over 18,800 tons of CO2.
Mr. Wuttichai added that the Company has also established a policy of commitment anti-deforestation as one of CPF's sustainability policies to protect and preserve biodiversity.
