Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) is progressing towards a Net-Zero goal by 2050, propelled by its commitment to sustainability and innovation. The company is increasing renewable energy usage across its operations, addressing the growing demand for eco-friendly food products.
Currently, CP Foods employs renewable energy sources in its facilities, accounting for 31% of its total energy consumption. By adopting waste-to-energy technology, the company aims to lower its carbon footprint at animal farms and food processing plants by converting manure and wastewater into energy. In a clear display of its commitment to combat global warming, CP Foods is ambitiously striving to utilize 100% alternative energy across its supply chain.
CP Foods' dedication to sustainability has earned its facilities numerous accolades. Significantly, its two-layer complex farms and the chicken processing plant in Nakhon Ratchasima were awarded the Thailand Energy Award 2023 by the Ministry of Energy. This recognition was for their commitment to promoting alternative energy and waste-to-value initiatives, contributing to the development of a low carbon food production system.
Chana layer complex in Songkhla province and Wangthong layer complex in Pitsanulok province have implemented Anaerobic Covered Lagoons biogas systems, significantly reducing electricity consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
The biogas system at the layer farms also help mitigates odors and prevents wastewater discharge into adjacent communities, while also supplying local farmers with fermentation residue to improve soil quality. CP Foods is actively developing layer farms powered entirely by renewable energy or RE100 Layer Farm and anticipates establishing a model RE100 layer farm by early 2024.
CP Foods' chicken processing plant in Nakhon Ratchasima is dedicated to energy efficiency and waste reduction, adhering to circular economy principles. Innovative initiatives at the plant include "Clean Energy from Wastewater Treatment," which employs advanced biogas systems to transform fat-laden wastewater into biogas, alongside the installation of solar panels. Future projects feature a "Floating Solar Farm," aimed at augmenting the use of renewable energy within the food production chain. These efforts are reflective of CP Foods' commitment to fostering a sustainable and greener future.
