Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) has shared its success in hi-tech pig farming that offer higher animal welfare and biosecurity status. This subsequently led to better food safety for consumers.
Suksamran Farm, Sirindhorn District, Ubon Ratchathani Province,is a smart pig farm that is controlled by machine. 14,000 pigs are living in 8 houses with high-level biosecurity measures. In there, the environment can be automatically controlled to help them live comfortably. They are fed with automate system and monitored by CCTV. This allows not only manpower reduction, but also minimize human contact and subsequently reduce the risk of bringing various diseases into the herd.
The smart farm also use big data to analyze production data, cost per head, and plan the production process.
Wutharit added that Suksamran Farm invested in the most Biosecurity, advanced disease prevention system that prevent diseases from entering the herd. With a closed system farming, the entrance, residential area, farms and selling areas are completely separated from each other. Moreover, the employees are refrain from leaving the area to minimize the exposure risk to diseases.
“Investing in both a rigorous disease prevention system and a fully automated system is a worthwhile investment because prevention is better than fixing problems later.” Wutharit said, “At the same time, we also place importance in production in animal welfare and production guideline from the Department of Livestock Development. As a result, all pigs are free to live in any pen, eat, sleep, and excrete freely. They are fed with enough food and water. When the pigs are comfortable, they are not stressed and they grow faster. All these systems help increase farming efficiency and promote the production of quality, safe, disease-free meat,” Wutharit said.
With regard to the sustainable coexistence with the surrounding community, Suksamran Farm adheres to CP Foods’ Greenfarm principle by raising animals in a closed EVAP house to ensure suitable environment for pigs.
He added that a closed system helps prevent unpleasant odors. Pig toilet for pig in the separate area, making the living area clean.
The farm also has a biogas system that both reduce odor and generate clean energy for use in the farm and enable Suksamran Farm to reduce electricity costs by more than 80%.
