As the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic spreads, people all over the world feel negative impacts. Aside from health concerns, many feel the pinch as economies come to a standstill. Some businesses are temporarily closed, while others ask employees to leave without pay, slash salaries, or even lay off some employees. Needless to say, workers enjoying daily wages are the hardest hit.
As an employee, the situation is heart-wrenching. It remains unknown when you will be summoned by supervisors and have to absorb the most undesirable words. This is my situation despite my deep feeling that “Charoen Pokphand Group” will never leave employees behind thanks for its emphasis on human resources.
My fears are gone when CP Group Senior Chairman Dhanin Chearavanont publicly announced: “CP businesses in all countries will not lay off a single employee and we will give them the best defense against the disease. We have launched preventive measures to keep our employees safe, so that they will not risk contacting the disease. One of the measures is to let some employees work from home and they enjoy the same pay.” His statement warmed the fearful hearts of all employees and brought about broad smiles from all.
The statement was echoed by the announcement of Mr. Supachai Chearavanont CEO of Charoen Pokphand Group: “In times of crisis, I’m urging all employees to fulfill their duties and do their best in delivering values to customers and all Thais. I hearby announced that we will walk side by side through the crisis. CP has no layoff policy despite the COVID-19 outbreak.” As an assurance infected employees, he stated: “In times of crisis, we need to step up our care for each other. All can rest assured that CP Group will come up with the best care for the infected employees, by shouldering all COVID-19-incurred medical expenses.”
As if their assurance statements were not enough, Mr. Supachai extended his concerns to all employees’ families. He insisted that all employees’ kids must receive education and CP Group is ready to extend financial supports to those in need. Affected employees who can’t support their families are entitled to food delivery until the situation improves.
Through their statements, we are deeply touched by their kindness, care and compassion. Many colleagues shared their praises through social media and during video conferences. They were joyful and deeply appreciated the chairman’s kindness. Their actions even impressed my friends working at other organizations and they have good words for what CP Group has done for Thai society after the outbreak.
Since the disease spread, CP Group has stood by all Thais. We have vigorously fought against COVIC-19, starting from the construction of a facial mask factory, the delivery of food stuff to over 20,000 Thais returning from risk countries, and the supply of food to 88 public hospitals across the country that are dealing with the disease, to the delivery of food to medical personnel’s families to ease their concerns. CP Group also donated food to slum people and extended other supports to other parts of society. These actions echoed what Mr. Soopakij Chearavanont, Chairman of Charoen Pokphand Group and Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF), stated: “CP Group will help Thais fight COVID-19 until the very end.” This brings us enormous pride as all employees are taking part in doing good deeds and the fight against the disease.
As an employee of CP Group who is overwhelmed by our leaders’ acts for the nation, all Thais, medical personnel and their employees, I’m urging over 300,000 employees from all over the world to loudly express our pride in being part of this CP Group. We vow to do our jobs as best as we can, for the sake of the nation, all people and our organization, as guided by …. Dhanin Chearavanont’s philosophy. Under this roof, we will walk forward with deep appreciation for the leaders who are kind and care for all members, whose acts assure us that nobody will be left behind.
Sincerely grateful,
An employee
