Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) has launched the "Green Sea We Share" initiative this year, aiming to engage and educate 13,840 Thai children and youth across 87 schools in 22 provinces about environmental conservation. The project seeks to raise awareness among the new generation about the importance of preserving natural resources and integrating sustainable practices into their daily lives. By fostering a network that spans from schools to families and communities, CP Foods endeavors to create a robust and collaborative effort to maintain a greener planet for the future.
With a steadfast mission to "ensure food security," CP Foods, a leading global food production company, recognizes that natural resources are the foundation of food production. This commitment is reflected in its environmental initiatives both in Thailand and internationally, such as increasing green areas by planting trees, conserving and restoring watershed forests and mangroves, and creating forests in farms and facilities.
Believing in the power of the new generation to change the world, "Green Sea We Share" is a project that creates shared value between the organization and society. It promotes the participation of employees and the community in environmental and social projects by establishing a network of young people dedicated to caring for the environment in their schools and nearby communities. CP Foods senior staff visit these areas to share experiences and provide environmental education, fostering leadership among youth who can disseminate knowledge about conserving natural resources and the environment through four practical learning bases.
First Base: "Circular Earth Base"
Focuses on conserving the environment and raising awareness about the impacts of a circular Earth, which can lead to natural disasters. It covers methods to prevent and mitigate these effects.
Second Base: "Transforming Waste Base"
Educates about waste segregation under the "Waste to Value" concept using the 3Rs principle: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. This includes comprehensive waste management and the establishment of "Waste Banks" in schools and communities.
Third Base: "Seedlings to Great Forest Base"
Teaches conservation, restoration, and biodiversity in upland forests and mangroves. CP Foods’ environmental projects, such as the CP Foods Ecosystem Conservation Project in the Sak River Basin, Khao Phra Yaeng Dong Thong, Lopburi Province, and the CP Foods Plant, Share, Protect Mangroves Project in Samut Sakhon, Rayong, and Trat Provinces, allow children and youth to engage in hands-on activities.
Fourth Base: "Safety Base"
Provides safety education through CP Foods’ Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) officers, covering topics such as risk points, clean drinking water, safe driving, and basic firefighting skills.
Bueng Ratchanon School in Wang Thong District, Phitsanulok Province, is one of the participating schools. Principal Patharapong Sukket stated, "CP Foods has supported projects such as raising egg-laying chickens for students' lunches, allowing children to engage in practical activities. The 'Green Sea We Share' project has enabled students to learn about the environment. The children are very interested because it is a familiar subject. The senior speakers provide excellent knowledge and appropriate teaching materials. Previously, the children were already segregating waste and are now even more enthusiastic about learning, also encouraging parents to segregate household waste."
Pharkawat Disphan, a 6th-grade student from Bang Pidlai School, Laem Ngop District, Trat Province, who participated in the project, said, "I like the 'Circular Earth Base' because I learned the importance of the environment. I realized that we need to plant more trees to help reduce global warming and preserve the environment. I also encourage my parents to plant permanent trees at our home."
Similarly, Punyachita Santaku, a 6th-grade student from Ban Sarapi School, Nong Bunmak District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, shared, "It was very fun to learn. I like the 'Seedlings to Great Forest Base' because it showed me the importance of conserving forests and how trees make our community greener. I will apply the knowledge about caring for and valuing natural resources both in school and in the community."
Jintara Saiview, Director of Ban Sarpak Pod School, Khon Buri District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, expressed gratitude to CP Foods, saying, "CP Foods recognizes the importance of children and youth by organizing activities that satisfy, promote health, and plant the future. They support agricultural initiatives and ensure food security in schools. Students develop essential skills, and the 'Green Sea We Share' project helps instill environmental consciousness through various learning bases, fostering awareness and appreciation for nature in their hometowns. It also creates a strong network of parents and communities for ongoing collaboration."
Since its inception, CP Foods has continuously expanded the "Green Sea We Share" program, reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement. These initiatives empower young individuals to take an active role in preserving natural resources, ensuring a sustainable future for Thailand and beyond.
