CP Foods wins “Excellent” award from TGO Low Carbon and Sustainable Business Project 2022

Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) has been granted an “Excellent” award in Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO)’s Low Carbon and Sustainable Business Index (LCSi) project in 2022, emphasized its goal to reduce environmental footprint and conserve the balance of environment.

 

Wuthichai Sithipreedanant, senior vice president for Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Development of CP Foods, received the “Excellence” award from Kiatchai Maitriwong. Executive Director Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization. This is the second year in a row that the company has been awarded.

 

He said that CP Foods focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the supply chain and establish a clear action plan to combat climate change, starting from helping farmers transition away from deforestation by teaching them more sustainable practices; as well as delivering and communicating sustainable sourcing policies to business partners and regularly assessing and reviewing ESG risks of business partners. As a result of these, CP Foods had met LCSi’s assessment and grading criteria for the management and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the business.

 

“It is a honour to receive such award. It is important for the business to find a sustainable solution on greenhouse gas problems. CP Foods is pleased to be a part of this process,” he said, adding that the company aims to support Charoen Pokphand Group's goal to become Carbon Neutral Organization by 2030 and becoming a GHG net zero organisation by 2050.

 

In order to reach the sustainable targets, multiple energy efficiency improvement programs have been initiated by the company. the company has implemented environmentally-friendly innovation and transition toward more renewable energy sources such as biodiesel, biogas and solar energy.

 

Asides, CP Foods has been collaborating with TGO in several occasions. The company joined the Voluntary Greenhouse Gas Reduction Project (T-VER). The effort is expected to enable the company to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 61,820 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year.

 

The company also received a certificate from the TGO under the Low Emission Support Scheme (LESS) project in the category of forestry and agriculture projects from the CPF Rak Nives at Phraya Doen Thong and green areas in farms and factories. The total amount of greenhouse gases that can be reduced and absorbed is 22,255 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.

 

CP Foods has applied “Circular Economy” principle to maximize resource management. In 2021, the company’s renewable energy accounted for 27% of its total energy consumption which reduced greenhouse gas emission by 575,000 tons carbon dioxide equivalent. The company’s eco-friendly products certified carbon footprint labels and carbon footprint reduction labels reached more than 790 items, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from low-carbon products by more than 1.4 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. 

 

At the same time, it has announced the cancellation of 100% coal use (CPF COAL FREE 2022) for businesses in Thailand. By turning to energy from biomass fuel instead of coal, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 70,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year.

 

Mr. Wuttichai added that The company announced a sustainability action plan so-called, CPF 2030 Sustainability in Action. This plan has been implemented across the company businesses, including its stakeholders, in the next 10 years (2021-2030), to help the world achieve 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. This is in line with the Decade of Action as set forth by the United Nations.

 

TGO has promoted LCSi since 2019, which this year, CP Foods granted “Excellent” award from information disclosure in its Sustainability Report in the past three years and the interview with the company for detail of all dimensions including environment, social and economy./
