CP Foundation for Rural Life and Charoen Pokphand Foods Plc (CPF) delivered “Raising Layer for Student’s Lunch” Project to 16,700 students in 70 schools to promote nutritional food in Thai students nationwide.

11,000 layer chickens, 440,000 kilograms of chicken foods, worth of 17 million Baht, were given to schools from Northern, Northeastern, Central and Southern regions. The handover ceremony was held at Thairatkeeree School in Tak province.

Nongnuch Chomphootep, Thairatkeeree School’s directors, said Raising Layer for Student’s Lunch Project will help the students to be able to consume 2 to 3 meals of nutritional foods that made of eggs per week, benefiting student’s health and also reducing undernutrition among children. The school intends to integrate the project into its educational program to help the students to develop career skills.

The school provides education to 622 students from Grade 1 to 6. 80% of the students are members of hill tribes. Most of their parents have small income from agricultural activity. The school has provide many initiatives to improve student nutrition including mushroom and fish farming.

“Thanks to the support from both organization, the students have learn to raise layer chicken and  accounting skill that will be valuable for them when they are graduated,” the director said.

“Social responsibility is an important role of the company. Handing over the project to 70 schools today will help 16,700 student to access to safe and quality food. In addition, it will leverage nutritional status of Thai people”, Mr. Sooksunt added.

Abhaichon Vacharasinthu , Director and Secretary of CP Foundation for Rural Life, said the foundation has been adopted HRH Princess Sirindhorn’s vision to support schools in remote area for more than 20 years. Nowadays, the scheme has been supported 660 schools across the nation, benefiting 140,000 students, 8,000 teachers and 900 communities. The project has been supported by CPF in term of Expert’s supports during selection process and being consultant to the schools.

CP Foundation for Rural Life expects to extend the project to 90 schools in 2018 and reached 1,000 schools within 2021.
