The Labour Rights Promotion Network (LPN) and Charoen Pokphand Foods PLC (CPF) kick off the 2nd year of their joint effort to educate CPF's workers nationwide on labour law and rights, promoting workers' access to basic rights and improvement of their quality of life.
Mr. Sompong Srakaew, Director of LPN, said that the two organizations are undertaking the joint effort to promote workers' fair and equitable life through training on human rights, Thai labour law, health and occupational safety for the 2nd year, to ensure their access to labour rights and social welfare. This year, migrant workers are encouraged to exchange their views on work and life and voice their expectations and proposed solutions to their problems.
“In the 2nd year, the collaboration emphasizes the sharing of information on workers' and their families' quality of life, so that CPF know precisely how to deal with labour issues. This will facilitate CPF's labour management and the recruitment process will be reviewed, to ensure compliance with Thai law and international standards," Mr. Sompong said.
Under Labour Voices Hotline by LPN, aside from training for workers at all CPF plants, workers of all nationalities can express their opinion and recommendations, file complaints or seek help. The foundation also initiates a review on the selection and recruitment process from the countries of origin, to ensure transparency and traceability of CPF's migrant worker recruitment process. In the meantime, CPF will be able to handle issues that pressure workers and force them to carry excessive debts.
Mr.Parisothat Punnabhum, CP Foods' Senior Executive Vice President for human resources of the company, added that CPF has so far undertaken training and information exchange sessions at 3 plants. This year, 20 training classes are planned to cover workers at all plants, along with the review on migrant workers' recruitment process. As more than 1,000 workers will gain knowledge and access to labour rights, CPF will obtain sufficient information for the improvement of workers' quality of life, to ensure their happiness and work stability as well as narrow social gaps and promote mutual growth in support of the sustainable social and economic development goal.
