The changing global environment has currently propelled the environmental issue into the Global Trend arresting people and consumers’ interest with the increase in its intensity in the future. 4 global  trend is moving toward 4 major issues namely climate change, energy and water usages and waste treatment. Besides, there are the issues of sustainability and new law or regulation. These issues are becoming the indicators used to measure the efficiency of sustainable business operation that Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited or “CPF” as the leading agro-industry and food industry has been well aware of. 

CPF’s Vice President Mr. Suchart Wiriya-apa said CPF has exercised  safety, health and environment management system own as CPF SHE MS since 2008 to ensure that our operations run effectively and environmentally sound to minimize the negative impact and create sustainability throughout the value chain.  However realizes the world tends to focus on environmental issue, the Company therefore had developed the old CPF SHE MS into Safety, Occupational Health, Environment and Energy ‘CPF SHE&En Standard’ which is exclusively designed by CPF in conforming to aligned with the various international standards, new law and regulations,  customer’s requirement   covering environmental issues and conserving energy with the focus on community participation on the management of the shared national resources. By doing this, CPF is dedicated to operating in an environmentally responsible manner leading to the sustainable growth on the development into the world-class organization.

The Safety, Occupational Health, Environment and Energy or CPF SHE&En Standard can be divided into two aspects namely Management Parts and Technical Parts. Management Parts,  is a driving system technical parts , consist of 1. Leadership and Management Structure, 2. Risks Management, 3. Law and Regulations Compliance,4. Objective, Target and Plan, 5. Capability and Awareness, 6. Internal and Public Communication 7. Operation Control, 8. Document Control, 9 Continuous Improvement.

The Technical parts include 15 issues to reinforce social and economic sustainability  consist of 1. Water Management, 2. Wastewater Management, 3. Energy Usage Efficiency, 4. Climate Change, 5. Waste Management, 6. Hazardous Material Management, 7. Programme on Safety, 8. Occupational Health, 9. SHE&En Culture, 10. Vehicle Safety, 11. Change Management, 12. Machinery & Equipment Efficiency, 13. Project Location and Management, 14. Contractor and Distributor, 15. Readiness and Response to Emergency.

Moreover, on early September, CPF has organized the CPF SHE&En Sustainability and Globalization workshop focusing on the development of personnel working on the safety, occupational health and environment to help 240 staff members working in Thailand and 10 countries worldwide, gain knowledge and understanding on the role and platform of CPF SHE&En standards as the new management system which embraces on the climate change throughout value chain to conform with the world trend on environmental protection.

‘Participation in the CPF SHE&En Sustainability and Globalization workshop will furnish both executives and staff members with knowledge and understanding on safety, occupational health, environment and energy operation. These personnel are the crucial force to realize the operational target. We believe that CPF SHE&En Standard will create efficiency and streamline the operation both inside and outside of the country to be on the same course,’ said Mr. Suchart.

 CPF with the commitment to the operation on safety, occupational health, environment and energy, has gained several national and international awards i.e. national outstanding enterprise on safety awards for 56 units, 25 awards on outstanding safety officer,  awards on outstanding safety committee for 5 units,  national outstanding enterprise on emergency team award and runner-up for 5 units, 32 Thailand Energy Awards, 1 award on outstanding industry on energy, 2 awards on ASEAN Energy Award as well as AEMAS awards on 2nd Star and 1st Star Level for 2 units.
